Blogging Help

"Blog is short for weblog, a frequent and chronological publication of comments and thoughts on the web."
- Wikipedia

"A weblog is a journal (or newsletter) that is often updated daily and contains all information that the person maintaining the BLOG (Blogger) wishes to share with the world."
- Wikipedia

"A blog is often a mixture of what is happening in a person's life and what is happening on the Web, a kind of hybrid diary/guide site, although there are as many unique types of Blogs as there are people."
- Wikipedia

Members may write Blog entries (a journal) on various topics pertaining to their travels and experiences from visiting public properties, and also about issues of the day that effect you or pertain to public properties, photography, photography equipment, the website, workshops and other member's Blogs!  It's whatever you would like to write about with a focus on photography and visiting public lands, and this is one where we, as a unique community of public property visitors, may help others who would like to know more about parks, wildlife refuges, forests, trails, and nature photography.

All Bloggers are asked to maintain the uniqueness of MyParkPhotos and write entries pertaining to the theme of "public lands" and their visits to these properties as much as possible, however, entries outside of this topic will help to personalize your Blog and are certainly welcome.

How do I start a Blog on MPP?

If you are already a registered member, simply login and click Add/Edit Blog in your MyAdmin section (Located below your name).

If you are not currently a member, become a Blog member today for free and begin your MyParkPhotos Blog today!

After logging in and clicking on "Add/Edit Blog"...

1)  First, if you have not already done so, add a personal Title for your Blog and click "Create!"  You may change this title at anytime simply by typing over the current title and clicking "Create!" again.

2) Create personal Chapters (or folders) for your Blog entries and determine who will be eligible to view the Blog entries for each particular Chapter by clicking on Edit AccessIf you simply want to have one journal, you may ignore this step.

For instance, a new Blog entry by Sam is automatically set to "default" access (All Visitors may view and comment on his Blog entries), however, other personalized Chapters that Sam creates may be given limited access to either "All Members only" or "Specific Members only", depending on whether or not Sam chooses to limit access to either all or a few members.

To set access for a Chapter click on "Edit Access", select one of the following; All Visitors, All Members, or Selected Members only, and click "Set rights".  If you chose to limit those who may view and comment on entries in a specific Chapter to Selected Members only, you must now click on "Select User", choose a current member, and click "Add User".  That member may now view and comment on your entries in that specific Chapter.

Repeat this process to add as many members to that specific Chapter as you would like.

Chapters with limited access are displayed only in a member's Blog gallery and are not displayed in the "Member Blogs" section of the website.

3) To write a Blog entry, simply click on "Add New Blog Entry".  Select a Chapter, create a title for this specific entry, add your text up to 5000 characters, and you may also add up to three images at 125 x 125 pixels.  Click "Save" to post the entry.

a) Selecting a Chapter: The "default" chapter is for a normal Blog entry and may be viewed and commented by any member.

b) Adding a 125 x 125 pixel thumbnail and linking the image to a Internet address: Currently all photos added through this feature must have been cropped to these defined measurements.  To add a thumbnail, click on "Browse" and search your computer's files and select the file you would like to upload. Add an appropriate title to your thumbnail, and then type in a web address to the "Link" field.

c) There are also Chapters designed for all Bloggers to post a Blog entry such as "Critique Corner".  To add a Blog entry to these community Chapters, select a community Chapter and write a Blog entry as normal.  If you are participating in the Critique Corner, add a similar thumbnail as your registered photograph (must be a MPP member) and link the thumbnail to your photograph in your gallery.

4) Blog entries may be edited or deleted at anytime by clicking on Edit entry or Delete entry. Note: Deleted entries cannot be recovered once deleted.
