Frequently Asked Questions (F.A.Q.)

Is the MyParkPhotos contest really free?
Yes!
How do you protect member's photographs once they are displayed online?
Photographs are only displayed at approximately 730x486 pixels, which should minimize any risk of theft for high-quality printing purposes.
How will MyParkPhotos use the photos registered by photographers?
Photographs are used for display purposes on the MyParkPhotos website for the ultimate purpose of promoting California State Parks, and in marketing material for promoting the website. Members who have also registered to participate in a partner's photography contest may have any of their registered photographs also displayed in our partner's photo gallery through their website.

We will request the permission from a member before using any photograph(s) for purposes other than those stated in the MyParkPhotos photographer's release.
How many photos may I register per month?
All members may upload an unlimited number of photographs, however the number of photographs you can register in the contest is limited to 3 per day. Everyone is automatically given 3 non-cumulating points per day.
Do I, as the photographer, retain all rights to my photographs?
Yes! Photographers retain all rights to their photographs after registering them with MyParkPhotos.
How do I know if MyParkPhotos received my photographs?
New photographs may be reviewed immediately after registration by clicking Edit Photographs from your admin page.
May I register photographs taken in previous years?
Yes! Photographs taken from earlier visits to public lands are certainly welcome.
May state park employees participate in this photo contest?
Yes! MyParkPhotos is perfect for state park employees who would like to promote their favorite park at no cost!
May I register photographs with people recognized in the photo?
Yes! However, please download the following release forms for parents or guardians of children under the age of 18 or individual releases and adults who are recognizable in the photograph.

You may download a parental consent form. (PDF)

You may download a release statement. (PDF)

For those members who do not want to ask identifiable individuals in their photographs to sign a release, a good rule of thumb for taking photographs with people in them is to make sure that the person(s) in the photograph are facing away from the camera or are far enough away as to not be easily identifiable. Photographs of people in a public area usually do not require a release, however, if the individual is recognizable then a release should be obtained whenever possible.
How can I promote my property on your site?

Property employees or volunteers can easily promote their park's events and recreational opportunities to members and visitors of the Photo Contest for free. Simply register and login to the site and introduce yourself as an employee through your Bio. To post comments and messages through the property homepage, you may use our Property Comments form through your admin or write a state park comment when registering a photo..

Partners purchase a "Partner Gallery" for their website to display participating Partner member photographs. Please contact us at admin@myparkphotos.com to find out more about pricing and benefits to your organization or agency..
How can I help promote your site?
Both members and visitors may promote and support the Photo Contest by emailing friends and family using the "Email a Friend" form and Share link found with each member photo. Please contact us at admin@myparkphotos.com if you would like to discuss other promotional ideas.
How can I cancel my membership?
Members may delete their account and remove one or all of their photographs and comments at anytime through their admin page. A short, three-question form will popup when members delete their account and we very much appreciate any and all comments as to how we may improve the website or service.
What should I do if there are no answers to my question?
Please send us any questions or comments through our contact form and we'll answer or contact you as soon as possible regarding the issue. Questions may be added to this page from time to time to help other members and visitors.
