Boyce Thompson Southwestern Arboretum- This vast living museum (1.076-acre)living museum was the dream of William Boyce Thompson,a mining magnate and philanthropist. He endowed not only this site, but also a sister institution,The Boyce Thompson Institute for Plant Research on the Cornell University campus in Ithaca,New York. The Arizona Arboretum is all the more intriguing because of its Sonoran desert location. This is one of the most special spots in Arizona. The long loop trail will take you an hour or twol There are myraid side loops to follow depending on your interest and season. One fascinating section is devoted to Old World trees, including the pomegranate,Chinese pisthacio, and olive, the are a major economic importance in various parts of the world. You will be amazed to learn how many different trees can grow in the Arizona desert.
