Tarzan was not the only movie filmed at Wakulla Springs; there have been a number of movies filmed here. One of which was the Creature from the Black Lagoon.

"Wakulla" is an old Indian word for "strange and mysterious waters." A good description for the park's centerpiece. Here, 6,000 acres of wildlife sanctuary are quietly hidden in Spanish moss draped Florida woodlands. The pristine beauty and uniqueness of the park placed it on the National Register of Historic Places and earned the designation as a National Natural Landmark. One of the world's largest and deepest fresh water springs highlights the 2,860-acre Edward Ball Wakulla Springs State Park. The spring bowl covers nearly three acres with water temperatures remaining a constant 70 degrees F year-round. A record peak flow from the spring on April 11, 1973 was measured at 14,325 gallons per second - equal to 1.2 billion gallons per day!

Home of one of the largest and deepest freshwater springs in the world, this park plays host to an abundance of wildlife, including alligators, turtles, deer, and birds. Daily guided riverboat tours provide a closer view of wildlife, and glass bottom boat tours are offered when the water is clear. Swimming is a popular activity during the hot summer months. A nature trail offers a leisurely walk along the upland wooded areas of the park. The Wakulla Springs Lodge was built in 1937 by financier Edward Ball and is open year-round. A full-service dining room overlooks the spring; lodge meeting facilities offer an excellent place for retreats. Wakulla Springs State Park and Lodge is listed on the Natural Register of Historic Places and is designated as a National Natural Landmark.

Wakulla Springs State Park is one of the most beautiful natural wonders of the world. And the wildlife there is both abundant and photogenic. If you get a patient boatman, one who understands the needs of the photographer, you are in cameraperson's heaven!
