Terry Cervi holding a gray lag gosling in the park. Both Terry, myself and a couple other ladies, named Karen and Paula, have been monitoring some gray lag gosling's born in the past month. This latest one that Terry is pictured holding was a single hatch ling from a mother Paula named Mabel. She was born on June 4 or 5th and Mabel was still sitting on the nest with two eggs. The baby was observed with the large group of gosling's, quite a ways away from the nest, and seemed to be rejected by them. Both Terry and I watched her fall off a ledge trying to keep up with the others and she landed into a large prickly bush so we decided to intervene and placed the baby back with Mother Mabel near the nest. In the meantime Mother Mabel's egg and one hatch ling must have been taken by predators. The little gosling was doing fine the last few days but sadly she is now missing since yesterday. The news was very upsetting to all, as we had hoped to see the little gosling grow. We were all fortunate to get some images of her before she disappeared and this was a special shot of Terry holding her before we placed her back on the nest with mom.
