Lowepro, recognized as a leading brand
worldwide with products designed to meet the needs of both professional photographers and enthusiasts
alike, has agreed to be our main sponsor for the third straight year and is providing a backpack for
our yearly winner! We are very excited to hear this great news and look forward to working with
them again to promote their products to our members and guests of MPP.

Partner Contests and Awards
California State Parks Foundation
The Foundation is sponsoring a photo contest through their gallery for all California state park related photographs
and offers both monthly and yearly awards to multiple winners. Awards include a CSPF Membership, which provides
an annual pass to all state parks; California Parks newsletter featuring things to do and see at all of the
state parks; a subscription to Sunset Magazine; and John McKinney’s Day Hikers Guide to California State Parks. Participation is free.
First Coast Birding & Nature Festival Gallery
The festival is sponsoring a photo contest through their gallery for photographs of all Florida public lands and
awards a full 4-day, 3-night festival package to one winner selected by a three-member panel (staff member,
professional photographer, and MPP). The winning photograph will be selected at the beginning of April. Participation is free.
Florida Wildlife Federation Gallery
The Florida Wildlife Federation selects 13 winning photographs from their gallery during August of each year
for publication into their yearly Florida public lands wall calendar. Additional photographs are printed in
filmstrips in the calendar which provides a display of over 100 beautiful Florida photographs. Participation is free.
Monthly MPP Awards
Photographs registered from the first through the last day of each month are reviewed by MPP staff and guest
judges upon occasion (professional photographers) and one winning photograph is selected from each of twelve contest related
categories. A Best Photograph of the Month is
selected from among all twelve monthly category winners and the photographer receives a $50
B & H Photo and Video Gift Certificate.
Yearly MPP Awards
All photographs from the August 2008 through July 2009 contest year will be judged by a panel of professional photographers
and a first place winner from each contest related category
will be chosen and one photograph will be selected to be the Best MPP Photograph of the Year for 2009.
How Photos are Judged
Decisions on daily, monthly and yearly winners are made on the following qualities:
Focus, Composition, Lighting, Technical Superiority, Impact, Creativity, and Storytelling
Each of these components are extremely important, however, equally important is how well each photograph
displays the qualities of the category to which it is placed.
